Programme overview

What this programme prepares you to do

Back-End Development

Back-end development is the part of software development that works behind the scenes. It handles application logic, databases, user accounts, security, APIs and the communication between different systems.

This practical programme teaches you how to design, build and maintain the server-side systems that power modern websites and applications. You will learn through guided lessons, practical exercises and real-world projects.

What you will learn

  • Understand how web applications communicate between the front end and back end
  • Write clean and structured server-side code
  • Work with relational databases and SQL
  • Design and build REST APIs
  • Handle user registration, login and authentication
  • Validate and securely process user data
  • Use Git and version control in development projects
  • Debug, test and improve back-end applications
  • Understand application security and common vulnerabilities
  • Deploy back-end applications to a live environment

What you will build

Throughout the programme, you will work on practical back-end projects such as database-driven applications, authentication systems and APIs. You will finish with a larger project that brings together the main skills covered during the programme.

Who this programme is for

This programme is suitable for beginners who want to start a career in software development, front-end developers who want to become full-stack developers, and anyone interested in understanding how modern web applications work behind the scenes.

Career opportunities

The skills developed in this programme can prepare you for roles such as Junior Back-End Developer, Web Developer, API Developer, Software Developer and Junior Full-Stack Developer.
